If you post info, we may be able to help. The M was even properly recognized as a combo tuner, and tunes Clear-QAM unencrypted digital cable without any trickery. That said, even you admit that it's up to the hardware manufacturers - not Microsoft - to continue to support their hardware. MS writes the requirements, and provides a development kit; however, it's up to the manufacturers to follow thru. It is their hardware, after all.

By that time, my laptop will be 3 years old and absolutely no drivers will be forthcoming from Sony so I'm dumping my computer. Just being realistic. Wednesday, February 25, AM. The current betting on Windows 7 itself shipping seems to be September so we may not have to wait as long as you think but I guess holding my breath in anticipation may be a mistake!!!

Wednesday, February 25, PM. As a general comment about hardware compatibility and drivers I guess I'm about to jump in here in support of MS and lay a large part of the blame on the hardware vendors themselves.

We're all aware that the hardware developers and manufacturers are always striving to make things faster, smaller, cooler, more stable, more efficient, etc, etc The rate of development is awesome.

If we go down to our local store today and buy a state of the art PC, take it home, unpack it, set it up, turn it on and finally configure it ready for use what do we find? It's quickly becoming obsolete because something newer is already on the way.

A lot of us fuel this because we always want something better. MS and other software vendors must have a massive task in developing software that keeps pace with this development and the issue is made much more difficult because as the hardware vendors add another new peice of shiny kit to their list the item at the bottom gets knocked of as far as driver development is concerned.

It's a rolling cycle of support for older hardware that is never going to change I'm afraid. We either have to live with that or we all shout stop.

Sorry to go on a bit but I guess I'm as much to blame as anyone else as I do like my shiny new peices of kit. Heard some rumor about W7 public beta around April I do love MS as Macs are really overpriced and no blueray, few hardware choices.

LOL there just aren't any choices. So, I love my Windows. Indeed, much to do with vendors that stop updating drivers so we'll buy their new model. Just on laptops, that's harsh since we can't swap.

Getting laptop verdors to allow swapping parts might be a solution, but I sure won't hold my breath. Just "company P". All secret like. I love being on the bleeding edge. Would love to hammer on Win7 as I've been a beta boy since Window 3. Thursday, February 26, AM. Bah i guess ill just buck up and buy a new card then. Any recommendations for a cheap vista 64 tuner card that will work with WMC? It's not an old card. It is not and will never be sold in stores.

You should be able to get drivers by going to HP's site. I'll go do so and get you a link. I was half wrong. Last edited: May 29, Holy smokes! Unfortunately I bought 2 gtx and sli'd them and i also have a sound card.. So i dont think i have any available pci slots for a tuner card. Maybe ill throw in the tuner and see if it works! Thanks again!! I'll probably tweak on them a bit more, see if I can work around the problem, but you may not want to bother messing with them just yet.

It just remains to be seen which happens first: Either I get the card working or I get sufficiently pissed off and restore my XP64 image onto this machine.
