I have a Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows Vista and after several years of using Google Chrome it has now stopped working unexpectedly. When I click on the shortcut the message 'The item 'chrome.
In programs, the only option available is to uninstall. Normally I would try to uninstall and reinstall, but I have a lot of useful websites and journal articles saved in Google Chrome for university and I'm worried they will be lost if I do so. I have tried several system restores and each time they were unsuccessful. A message appears explaining that an 'unexpected error has occurred' and the system was unable to restore. I am also using Windows Explorer, as my university email is not compatible with Google Chrome if this is relevant?
Try checking Task Manager to see if there are any Google-related processes running and, if so, shut them all down - answer "yes" when task manager asks if you are sure you want to end the process. You can also go into your services and see if there are any services connected to Google Chrome.
If so, you can either stop or disable them - and configure them to run manually, rather than auto. After all that - try uninstalling Chrome via the Windows Control Panel or, you can download the free version of Revo Uninstaller and run a much deeper uninstall - which might be advisable in this case.
