The consumer did not refer vehicle to a dealer, but took vehicle to a certified mechanic, who did not known how to remedy the problem. The consumer was experiencing the same problem with his GM truck. A recall was issued. However, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to the model year although the exact same brake system was on this vehicle. The caller complained about an ABS problem.. She said there was a recall on other years, but this model year was not included.
Dealer was out of business, and the manufacturer said there was no recall. The caller stated she already had the brakes fixed, but wanted her vehicle added to recall. The consumer is experience a problem with the ABS at low speeds. The problem first started occurring in Dec. Of The consumer stated the brakes were not holding when coming to a stop at slow speeds. When going over 20 mph there was no problem.
The consumer has not had the repair made as of yet. Due to the fact that the consumer feels that his model year should be included in the recall also.
There is a recall on this issue for the models. The consumer is going to contact the manufacturer. The consumer states since the purchase of the vehicle the ABS brakes failed. It is the same recall 05V as for the GMC trucks. The problem has not been fixed. The mechanic suggests new parts need to be put in. The consumer does not feel he should pay for it. Check the mounting surface on the sensor head for flatness by placing it on the edge of a metal machinists scale or other suitable straight edge to measure the flatness.
If the sensor head is distorted, replace the sensor. Apply spray two thin coats of the specified rust penetrating lubricant corrosion inhibitor to the complete sensor mounting surface on the bearing hub. Allow to dry for minutes between coats. Install either the original sensor or a new one in the hub and secure the sensor. Ensure that the sensor is seated flush against the hub. Install the rotor, the caliper and the wheel. The vehicle only had miles on it at that time.
I believe the Silverado trucks should have been included in this recall. This vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to VIN.

The consumer experienced extended stopping distances during low-speed brake applications. The caller has the same problem with Silverado as mentioned in recall 05v on the Chevrolet Silverados concerning abs brakes.
Dealer and manufacturer said this vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer said this vehicle was a Chevrolet ck and the recall was on the Chevrolet k only. They told him they were not recalling the caller's vehicle. The caller said that manufacturer told him to get vehicle fixed and sell it. The caller had some close calls. The consumer removed the abs fuse.
Abs braking system was operating on fuse, causing motor to run hot. Braking system was operating as manual brakes, abs system was not working at that time. The dealership was aware of the problem.
The contact stated tailgate attachment cables broke in half and the tailgate fell off the vehicle. The hinge and attachments were repaired. The vehicle was also having a problem with the abs engaging at low speeds of 20 mph or less.
The brake pedal must be depressed several times in order to stop completely. The vehicle has not been seen by a dealer for inspection. The abs has not been repaired. The contact noticed recalls 04v and 05v online for both problems, but when she contacted the manufacturer she was told this vehicle was not included due to VIN. The contact stated about three years after buying the vehicle when applying brakes at 7 mph the abs would activate.
The pedal would pulsate, going all the way to the floor, resulting in no braking power. He was still experiencing this when the vehicle was driven at 7 mph. It was getting progressively worse. He learned that there was recall 05v concerning the abs system in different year models. The contact believed that this vehicle should be included in the recall. No repair has been made at this time because of the high cost. Abs would intermittently engage while applying brakes during low speed and dry pavement.
Vehicle been to repair shop on three occasions, and they were unable to duplicate the problem. Dealer and manufacturer have not been notified at this time.
Abs speed sensor has corroded. Gm did not warn me of potential corrosion or that the vehicle may have problems with uncontrolled stopping. Gm also did not plan a maintenance check up on the abs sensor, which could have prevented problems. During the short life of the vehicle this part was gradually becoming defective.
This part under normal circumstances should last the life of the vehicle, since it is in a protected and sealed area that requires major mechanical work.
I took my vehicle to the point of purchase, don mccue Chevrolet where I have majority of all work done.
They fail to understand that they are not the only mechanics in town. They are using this fact for the purpose of denial of any responsibility. I spoke with dennis briner the service manager at don mccue about this problem, and he stated after some arguing that this area of the vehicle is not considered regular maintenance with brake jobs or any other maintenance check up.
My feeling is, is that this was a developing problem over the short life of the vehicle and should be covered by gm. I spoke with gm corporate directly and they responded that I failed to keep regular maintenance records. But when I asked where in their records do they show a regular maintenance schedule for abs speed sensors they said there isn't one. Gm hasn't been able to provide me with an owner's manual that proves them right.
